Résultat du nouvel appel à projets Clinatec

Clinatec® is launching two research projects to design and evaluate new medical devices for stroke and myocardial infarction recovery.

With the aim of strengthening the dynamic collaboration between their research teams around Clinatec®, a multidisciplinary biomedical research center for technological and clinical innovation, the CEA, Grenoble Alpes University Hospital, Grenoble Alpes University and the Clinatec® Endowment Fund launched a call for projects last autumn, aimed at all their researchers and teacher-researchers. Two projects have been selected and will be funded for a two-year period.

The selected projects address clinical issues addressed by the CHUGA and involve the Clinatec® biological, medical device and clinical platforms:

  1. Brain-computer interface based on electro-corticography for upper limb recovery after stroke, a project led by Professor Olivier Detante (UGA and CHUGA) and Guillaume Charvet (CEA).
  1. Light for heart attacks: does photobiomodulation help post-myocardial infarction recovery? Project led by Professors Gilles Barone-Rochette (UGA and CHUGA) and John Mitrofanis (Fonds Clinatec).

The projects are scheduled to start on February 1, 2024, and run for two years. They will be financed by the four partners to the tune of €100,000 each.

The expected results of these two projects are new medical devices providing a therapeutic solution to a pathology, in the first project by adding an existing means of physical action to a new pathology (stroke), and in the second project by adding a new means of physical action (photobiomodulation) to a cardiac pathology.

Initiated from Grenoble’s biomedical research center, these projects could then, if necessary, give rise to partnerships on a wider scale.

Today, Clinatec® brings together nearly a hundred experts, and is unique in that it combines technological and biological exploration platforms with a clinical sector where cutting-edge technological devices are developed and tested. The biomedical center accelerates the industrial transfer of innovative medical devices, so that they can be made available to patients as quickly as possible.

About Clinatec®

Clinatec®, the Edmond J. Safra biomedical research center, a quadripartite structure comprising the CEA, Fonds de dotation Clinatec, CHUGA and UGA, brings together in a single location, at the heart of Grenoble’s internationally renowned research and development campus, the CEA’s most innovative technologies to develop the medicine of tomorrow. Thanks to its scientific and technological research platforms, a hospital sector incorporating a state-of-the-art operating theater and multidisciplinary teams, Clinatec® is developing groundbreaking innovations to treat the most debilitating diseases of the 21st century.

About CEA

The CEA’s role is to inform public decision-making and provide the scientific and technological resources that will enable companies and local authorities to better master the major changes taking place in society: energy transition, digital technology, healthcare of the future, defense and global security. In particular, it relies on a foundation of internationally recognized research excellence to advance knowledge and inspire future breakthroughs. Its 20,000 employees work at the heart of the regions, in 9 centers equipped with major research infrastructures, within the framework of academic and industrial partnerships in France, Europe and the rest of the world. About Grenoble Alpes University Hospital

Ranked among the top 10 hospitals in France, CHU Grenoble Alpes (CHUGA) is the reference and referral hospital for the Alpine arc, a catchment area home to 2 million people. With its 11,500 professionals, Grenoble Alpes University Hospital offers a comprehensive range of local and referral services. Every year, it welcomes a large number of patients and provides both routine and highly specialized medical and surgical care. Highly efficient in all medical specialties and equipped with cutting-edge technology, the CHUGA has many areas of excellence in both medical care and research. It is the first university hospital in France to be certified as level A in its entirety and as a first-line hospital by the college of the Haute Autorité de Santé (HAS). Grenoble Alpes University Hospital boasts strong potential in many of the research fields on which its scientific reputation is based. Every year, Grenoble Alpes University Hospital enrols some 5,000 patients in interventional clinical trials, enabling them to access to innovative treatments.

About l’Université Grenoble Alpes – UGA

Ranked among the top 150 universities worldwide in the Shanghai ranking, UGA is firmly rooted in its region, multi-disciplinary and open to the world, and is one of only 8 French universities to have been awarded the “Initiative d’Excellence” (IDEX) label. Since 2020, the UGA has included 3 component institutions Grenoble INP, Institut d’ingénierie et de management-UGA, Science Po Grenoble-UGA, Ecole nationale supérieure d’architecture de Grenoble ENSAG-UGA and 3 academic components Faculté des sciences-UGA, Ecole universitaire de technologie-UGA, Faculté Humanités, santé, sport, sociétés-UGA. 59,500 students, including 10,000 international students and 3,000 PhD students, and more than 10,400 staff are spread across several campuses, mainly in Grenoble and Valence. The national research organizations CEA, CNRS, INRAE, Inria and Inserm are working even more closely with Université Grenoble Alpes to develop a joint research and development policy on an international scale. Relations with IRD and CHU Grenoble Alpes have also been strengthened. For more information : https://www.univ-grenoble-alpes.fr/

About Fonds Clinatec

To speed up research and the transfer of innovations for the benefit of patients, CEA has chosen to innovate in its financing methods. In 2014, he initiated the Fonds de dotation Clinatec, an independent body tasked with raising private funds for allocation to Clinatec® research programs, including those that the Fonds de dotation Clinatec conducts as a research operator. The Clinatec Endowment Fund is directed́ by Dr. Laurent Hérault, and Ms. Sophie Cluzel has chaired its Campaign Committeé since September 2023, following in the footsteps of Alain Mérieux and then Thibault Lanxade. Thanks to the mobilization of every player, since its creation, +30M€ has been raised and allocated to Clinatec® projects.
