Recruitment: System engineer

The Clinatec Endowment Fund is recruiting a system engineer (18-36 months contract).

Mission: design photobiomodulation medical devices for clinical trials and pre-clinical experimentations

Level : Engineer

Contract duration : 18-36 months

Localization : Clinatec – bat 43 – 17 avenue des Martyrs – 38054 Grenoble Cedex

Context

Clinatec, biomedical research center Edmond J. Safra has been working for several years to develop innovative technological solutions for neurodegenerative diseases. Professors Benabid and Mitrofanis have initiated and developed the use of photobiomodulation in preclinical animal models of Parkinson’s disease with the use of an intracranial implant.

The benefits of photobiomodulation are multiple and its use can be extended to other disease models, including Alzheimer’s disease, the subject of the COVEA NEUROTEC project initiated in 2021 at the Clinatec Endowment Fund and supervised by Professor John Mitrofanis, scientific director of FDD. The main goal of this project is to characterize the effect of photobiomodulation with an extracranian device. Other pathologies and disease models are being explored including postmyocardial infarction recovery with Grenoble Hospital (CHUGA), traumatic brain injury with Lyon Hospital (HCL) and quality of sleep.

The Clinatec Endowment Fund now includes 15 researchers, post-docs, engineers and PhD students. Collaborations with the CEA, HEPIA in Geneva, the Grenoble Institut Neuroscience, the Laboratory of Psychology and Neurocognition of the University Grenoble Alpes, the Institute of Molecular and Cellular Pharmacology in Nice place the Clinatec Endowment Fund at the heart of innovative projects.

Job description

The engineer will realize technical developments related to the Clinatec Funds projects. This includes finalizing the cardio device in collaboration with subcontractors and adapting new devices for upcoming clinical trials in 2027. The engineer will work closely with clinicians to ensure the devices are tailored to the specific needs of each trial.

Additionally, the engineer will assist researchers in setting up test benches for their experiments. This may involve designing and building equipment, troubleshooting technical issues, and ensuring the smooth operation of the experiments.

The engineer should have strong technical skills and the ability to realize sevral projects simultaneously. They should also have excellent communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with subcontractors, clinicians, and researchers.

Overall, the engineer’s role will be crucial in advancing the development of innovative technological solutions for neurodegenerative diseases and other related pathologies.

Skills and expertise

  • The applicant must have expertise in the fields of electronics system definition and realization, and most specifically on design, conception and tests of PCB. The knowledge of embedded programming (micropython) is recommended.
  • Understanding of regulatory requirements and standards in medical device development is a plus.
  • The applicant must be motivated, autonomous, organized and, ultimately, demonstrate a real team spirit to fit in seamlessly and thrive within a multidisciplinary environment.
  • A master’s degree in electronical engineering, physics, or a related field is required. She/he must have between 5 and 10 years of professional experience.

Localization

The position is open at the Clinatec site, the Edmond J. Safra biomedical research centre in Grenoble. In partnership with CEA, CHU Grenoble, UGA, and the Clinatec Endowment Fund, bringing together technologists, biologists and clinicians, Clinatec’s mission is to develop and optimise the transfer of innovative solutions to patients. As part of this mission, several projects to develop innovative new medical devices in the field of neurodegenerative diseases and disability are currently underway on the Clinatec structure.

Equipment available on the Clinatec platform will be accessible, including functional MRI, MEG, biological laboratories, an electronic platform.
